Part of the Gateshead District Energy Scheme designed to provide low cost, low carbon energy to Gateshead town centre. The scheme won the Visionary Project Award presented to Gateshead Council by the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE).

This building contains 4MW of combined heat and power engines and required a large amount of natural ventilation airflow to be provided whilst also providing a high degree of weathering. This was provided by ALPS / Colt double bank 2UL/DH louvres.

The louvres were painted Grey (RAL 7037) to match the adjacent cladding and Pink (RAL 4006) to make a bold statement.

The main focal point being the large 2UL/DH louvre panel including a ‘hidden’ double door and integrating glazed window panels to allow passing train passengers to be able to see into the ‘internal workings’ of the building.
